Dreaming of Sugarplums is my heirloom quality doll clothing business. It has been a source of joy and relaxation away from the hurried world of teaching Kindergarten and raising a family. It has allowed me to imagine, dream and create. Much of my joy in the art of the needle is "dreaming" about the garment, I am creating. I have been working with fine fabrics and antique dolls for most of my life. My Grandmother began teaching needlework skills to me at a very young age. At six, I must admit, I was genuinely intrigued by her extremely large antique button and trim collection. I began making "tiny treasures" for my beloved dolls. I still have the little fur coats, hats and dresses that my grandmother and I created. Now, I am eternally grateful for her time and patience spent with me on developing such fine handiwork skills. The idea for the name Dreaming of Sugarplums is near and dear to my heart. It originated from the timeless Christmas ballet that my daughter danced in every December since she was five years old. I spent every fall designing and creating costumes for the Christmas story. While "dreaming of sugarplums" one Christmas Eve, my heirloom doll design business evolved. My petite couture doll boutique features fine designer fabrics, French cotton laces, silk ribbons, hand smocking, delicate hand embroidery, along with hand finishing details. They add that fussy element which should be present in dressing little girls! My collections are for those who love beautiful heirloom sewing and pretty things for your treasured dolls. Dressing "Our Little Women" have developed into a quiet passion. Smocking tiny dresses have captured my utmost attention. Countless hours and careful attention to detail have produced exquisite couture ensembles. Delicate needlework, working with the tiny details & accessories are the key elements in creating an exceptional design. My ensembles are sewn with Heirloom sewing or French handsewing. These elegant handsewing techniques were used in ensembles from the late 1800's and early 1900's. I am so pleased to be able to continue this lost art. My fabrics are of natural fibers used for authenticity and ease in stitching. Cotton, linen, silk & wool are the fabrics of choice. Merci beaucoup to all of my new and repeat customers.
